It’s been a long time coming, but we’re finally sharing our secret salad weapon: the salad everyone knows and loves but with some of our signature homemade touches: our Classic Caesar Salad From Scratch! What makes this salad next level is our authentic homemade Caesar dressing, our from scratch croutons, and our little secret ingredient to add brightness and complimentary flavor to the classic!

Ingredients Needed

a head of lettuce and a bowl of croutons, caesar dressing, shaved parmesan cheese, and lemon pepper seasoning all labeled.
  • Romaine Lettuce – Classic for any Caesar salad!
  • Caesar Dressing – This is what really makes or breaks a great Caesar salad, the dressing! Our Caesar Dressing is one that you won’t want to skip!
  • Croutons – Even more from scratch flair with our Homemade Croutons which are surprisingly easy to make and a great way to ensure that homemade stale bread does not go to waste!
  • Parmesan Cheese – Nice shaved slices of cheese add a great look and texture to the salad.
  • Lemon Pepper Seasoning – This is my lil secret addition to our Classic Caesar Salad From Scratch and you can go the extra mile by making your own! We just love the subtle lemon pepper kick it adds that helps to highlight all of the other flavors of this salad.

Prep the Lettuce

Give that lettuce a chop and a wash and you have the base of your salad all ready to go!

Pro Tip – How to Cut Romaine

1. Slice the romaine head in half
2. Cut out the cores
3. Once the cores are removed, slice those halves lengthwise in half again.
4. Finally, give it all a chop.

Make Ahead

This salad is so great to make ahead and just assemble when ready. You can make the dressing 3 days in advance, prep the lettuce, shred the cheese, and make the croutons up to 2 weeks in advance. Have it all on hand to assemble and have it on the table in just a few minutes!

Notes

Storage
Dressed Caesar salad is best served within an hour of being mixed. After, the lettuce begins to wilt and the croutons aren’t as crunchy. Leftovers will keep in the fridge for up to 3 days (if using freshly made dressing), but note there will be some wilting.
Dressing Amount
1/2 cup of Caesar dressing is just enough so that everything has a nice coat, but you can use up to 1 cup for a very well dressed salad. Start with 1/2 cup and adjust to your taste and preference.
Substitutions
You can of course use any store-bought favorites for our from scratch versions!
Make Ahead
This is a great salad to prep all of the ingredients ahead of time to just assemble when ready. Keep the dressing and croutons separate until just before serving.
