Copycat Neiman Marcus Cookies

Have you heard of the lore of the $250 cookie? Our Copycat Neiman Marcus Cookies is our take on that classic chocolate chip cookie that was so good that it was said to be worth paying for the recipe. No need here, we have it for you, and yes, it is that good!

It’s a classic, but better! Our Copycat Neiman Marcus Cookies are everything you want out of a big chocolate chip cookie, but better! These cookies don’t skip on anything, plenty of butter, sugar, extra chocolate, and some added texture and crunch from oats and walnuts. It’s the recipe that caused an uproar in the 90s that my mom has had in her recipe box for decades and for a delicious reason!

For those unfamiliar with the lore, the tale is that a woman eating at the famous Neiman Marcus cafe in Dallas, TX loved their chocolate chip cookies so much that she asked for the recipe. Supposedly she was told that the recipe was “only two-fifty”, but when she got her bill, she found out that they meant two HUNDRED and fifty dollars. Turns out this is a myth, but as urban legends typically do, it made the rounds (even before the days of social media), and eventually Neiman Marcus released the recipe to the public and that’s where my family grabbed it, and added it to our recipe box.

Ingredients Needed

bowls of flour, sugars, oats, chocolate chips, eggs, chocolate bars, butter, vanilla exract, walnuts, baking soda and baking powder and salt all labeled.
  • Flour – We use all-purpose flour for these, but you could also use gluten-free 1:1 flour.
  • Oats – We use whole oats and then blend them in our high-powered blender, but you could also use some oat flour.
  • Sugars – Both white and brown!
  • Chocolate – Lots of it! Both the classic chocolate chips and some chopped-up dark chocolate!
  • Eggs – Two big ones, at room temperature!
  • Butter – And lots of it!
  • Baking Soda, Powder, Vanilla Extract, and Salt – Cookie classics.
  • Walnuts – Or your other favorites, like pecans, almonds, or a mix!

Easy to Make

4 bowls, one with sugar and butter, it all creamed and with eggs, mixed again with flour, and then with chocolate and nuts.

Just like a classic chocolate chip cookie recipe, this is just as easy! All you need to do is cream the sugar and butter, add the eggs, mix in the dry ingredients, and finally fold in the chocolate and nuts.

Storage
Cookie Dough: Cookie dough will last 2-3 days in the fridge and 2 months in the freezer.
Baked Cookies: Baked cookies in an airtight container will last 3-5 days at room temperature or 3 months in the freezer.
Substitutions
Flour: You can use a 1:1 gluten-free flour for all purpose flour.
Oats: You can use oat flour in place of the whole oats, but we prefer the texture of blending the oats and you can blend them as much or as little as you’d like!
Chocolate: The original recipe calls specifically for Hershey’s Chocolate Bars, but we prefer a higher quality dark chocolate bar, but you can use whatever you prefer!
