This Easy Homemade Muesli is a breakfast that's healthier than granola and packed full of nutrition from nuts, seeds, and dried fruits!

A bowl of muesli with fresh raspberries

There are some foods that you never forget the first time you had them. Muesli is one of them for me. I was living in Italy where breakfast is sweet. As a fruit and eggs breakfast eater, I was lost. Eggs? Never. Fruit? Blank stares. Toast? Only if it has Nutella. My host families instead introduced me to muesli and yogurt. I was. In. Love. Oats, dried fruits, and nuts. This Easy Homemade Muesli is takes me back to my days in Italy and also gives my girls a delicious, healthy cereal!

Ingredients Needed

a bowl of pecans, pepitas, dates, chia seeds, almonds, oats, and flax

One the of the best things about making an Easy Homemade Muesli is that it's totally customizable. Oats. Nuts/seeds. Dried fruits. That's it, that's all you need and whatever you have on hand. For ours we chose:

  • Old Fashioned Rolled Oats
  • Ground Flax Seed
  • Dried Dates
  • Chia Seeds
  • Sliced Almonds
  • Pepitas
  • Chopped Pecans
  • Dehydrated Blueberries

Because it's blueberry season, we had some fresh picked blueberries that we dehydrated which was perfect for this! (And some of our Blueberry Almond Granola!)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Mix all ingredients in a large bowl.

That's it! Ha. Does it get any easier? Actually, it does. It's totally customizable! All you need is a mixture of oats, seeds, nuts, and dried fruits. Whatever you have on hand.

Add fresh fruit to round it out and make every bowl different. We love love love fresh summer raspberries mixed in. But strawberries, bananas, apples, peaches, whatever you have wound be delish.

I. Love. This. Cereal. Not only for me, but little M loves it too! And I love that it's a healthy, wholesome, from scratch breakfast ready FAST.

I know what you mean about breakfast in Italy! I'm a savoury breakfast eater and always found my Italian hubby's preference for coffee and a brioche rather boring! Most Italians just don't eat much for breakfast! He does eat museli, though more as a midnight snack. I bet he'd love it if I made this for him!

The fact that you can make your own cereal is amazing to me! I love muesli. I love the fact that I know how to make it at home now.

I had made granola earlier but never muesli. Totally loved every bit of it. Next time will make a bigger batch.

Love that this is so healthy - perfect power food for busy days! And so darn easy to mix up and keep on hand, ready to go anytime. I usually like to eat my muesli with vanilla Greek yogurt, thinned a little with nonfat milk - really, really good!
