Our Homemade Classic Chex Mix is an iconic snack, made at home! As an (elder) millennial, anytime you went to a party, and there was a bowl of this quintessential party snack there, you knew it was going to be a good time. It’s crunchy, salty, and (the best part) so customizable! Keep the chex base but substitute in your favorite kind of pretzels, nuts, and other salty, crunchy add-ins to make this new and exciting over and over again!

Ingredients Needed

a bowl of different chex cereal, peanuts, pretzels, bagel chips, spices, and butter all labeled.
  • Chex Cereal – A mix of Rice, Corn, and Wheat is what you’ll find in this classic, but you can, of course, use whatever combination you want/have on hand.
  • Pretzels – We love these extra small mini pretzels, but you can also use pretzel sticks, or regular mini pretzels.
  • Bagel Chips – We love these bagel chips, and these garlic rye bagel chips are also an amazing addition.
  • Nuts – Salted peanuts and cashews are our favorites, but you can also use all peanuts, all cashews, or swap in another nut like almonds.
  • Ranch Dressing MixThis adds a savory, herbal touch – and even better, add some from scratch flair by making your own!
  • Worcestershire Sauce – Just enough to add a little touch of umami.
  • Seasonings – In addition to the ranch dressing mix, we love to add some onion and garlic powder, and just a touch of savory thyme.
  • Butter – Key to tying it all together!

SO Easy to Make

Melt and Mix

Just add the butter, spices, and Worcestershire sauce to a small saucepan to melt the butter. Finish with the ranch dressing mix and then whisk it all together. Meanwhile, add everything else to a large bowl and give it a mix before adding the seasoned butter mixture.

Make it Spicy by adding a little hot sauce or cayenne to the butter and then swapping in some takis!
Make it Sweet by adding candied pecans, kettle corn, Honey roasted peanuts, or add in a M&Ms after it’s been baked and cooled.
