Homemade Bibimbap Sauce

It’s the sauce that ties it all together! Sweet, spicy, and full of flavor, our Homemade Bibimbap Sauce is a Korean staple made with gochujang. It’s perfect for your favorite bibimbap or to add spice and flavor to any of your favorite Asian-inspired dishes.

Use it on our Homemade Bibimbap!

Here’s another delicious piece of our Korean cooking journey, Homemade Bibimbap Sauce! It has some kick thanks to the Korean staple gochujang, but also a touch of sweetness to balance it out and add so much flavor to the classic Korean dish, bibimbap! But don’t limit it to just one dish, this sauce can add some sweet, flavorful heat to any of your favorite Asian dishes and beyond!

Ingredients Needed

bowls of gochujang, sesame oil, rice vinegar, apple cider vinegar, sugar, and garlic all labeled.
  • Gochujang – This red chili paste is a staple ingredient in Korean cooking and adds so much flavor and heat to whatever it’s used in. From pasta to sloppy joes, it’s quickly becoming one of our favorite ingredients to take regular dishes to the next level!
  • Vinegar – We like to use both seasoned rice vinegar and apple cider vinegar in this recipe. One adds a little extra sweetness and the other a milder tang.
  • Toasted Sesame Oil – While you can use regular sesame oil, toasted is our favorite to use for sauces like this since it has a much stronger, nuttier flavor.
  • Sugar – Just a touch to bring up the sweetness and balance the heat.
  • Garlic – Fresh, minced for the best flavor. We find the jarred minced garlic has a more subdued flavor.

It truly does not get much easier than this! Just add everything to a small bowl and mix well! Done. Homemade Bibimbap Sauce!

Customizable!

What’s great about this Homemade Bibimbap Sauce (and with all other sauces and condiments you make at home), is that it’s totally customizable. Like less heat? No problem, cut back on the gochujang. Want it sweeter? Add more sugar! When it’s this easy to make, it’s also just as easy to customize!

Our favorite use for this Homemade Bibimbap Sauce is, of course, Bibimbap! But it’s also delicious to drizzle on our Kimchi Deviled Eggs, or Egg Roll Cabbage Soup, or dip our Spicy Korean Chicken Skewers (Dakkochi), or sometimes I like to add a bit to our Ground Beef and Broccoli!
