Bring on all of the homemade condiments! My kids are total condiment kids, with my oldest being obsessed with ketchup and my youngest being blue cheese dressing. So naturally, we had to add a Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing to our list! This is truly a dressing for the blue cheese lover as it is packed full of chunky blue cheese in a creamy, dreamy base. It will take any salad to the next level or completely level up all of your other favorite uses for this classic dressing!

Ingredients Needed

bowls of buttermilk, sour cream, blue cheese, mayonnaise, vinegar, worscheshire sauce, and black pepper labeled.
  • Blue Cheese – Key (obviously) to this Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing. Use whatever your go-to is. You can use pre-crumbled or fresh from the fancy cheese section.
  • Sour Cream and Mayonnaise – The creamy base to this dressing. We use both because the sour cream adds a little tangy flavor as well. Go the extra mile from scratch by making your own Mayonnaise!
  • Buttermilk – To loosen the dressing just the right amount. And another ingredient that you can make yourself!
  • Worcestershire Sauce – This adds just the right amount of savory umami!
  • White Wine Vinegar – This adds a mild acidity to tie it all together.
  • Ground Black Pepper – To round out the flavor profile of this classic creamy dressing.

Ready in Minutes!

When it comes to homemade condiments, it truly does not get much easier than this one! Just give that blue cheese the crumble and mash to the size that you want, then add all of the rest of the ingredients before giving it all a good mix!

  • 1/3 cup buttermilk
  • 2/3 cup sour cream 5.3 oz
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise 4.3 oz

  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

  • Crumble Blue Cheese: Add blue cheese to a medium-sized mixing bowl. Use a fork to mash the cheese to the size you'd like. Keep it as chunky as you'd like or mash for a smoother textured dressing.
  • Mix Dressing: Pour in buttermilk and then add the sour cream, mayonnaise, worcestershire, vinegar, and black pepper. Mix well.
  • Serve or Store: Use immediately or store in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 7 days.

Notes

Nutritional value is per oz. This recipe yields approximately 2 cups of dressing.
Dressing thickness
This dressing first made will be nice and thick. It will loosen a bit over time stored in the fridge.
Substitutions
Blue Cheese: Choose your favorite! We have also made this with gorgonzola cheese, too. While obviously it’s not blue cheese – it is a good substitute if you can’t find blue cheese in the store.
White Wine Vinegar: Apple cider vinegar also works as a good sub for this mild vinegar.

  1. Yummmm!!!!! LOVE the pics, I tried taking pics of buffalo chicken wings once….notice how it’s not on my blog. Couldn’t make the pics look good, yours are GREAT! Love the one with the bleu cheese in the jar dripping off the side! Thanks for the tip on letting the wings dry before roasting, I love a nice crisp skin!!! I’ll remember that!
