If you’re looking to add some more from scratch recipes into your diet but are unsure where to start, homemade condiments are some of the easiest to make, especially salad dressings. A delicious dressing can take any boring salad to the next level, and when it’s made from scratch, it’s even better. Our Homemade Creamy Italian Dressing takes the store-bought (and one particular restaurant’s iconic condiment) and brings it home with just a few simple ingredients and only a couple of minutes.

Ingredients Needed

olive oil, red wine vinegar, mayo, parmesan cheese, dijon mustard, italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in bowls and labeled.
  • Olive Oil – You can use whatever olive oil you have (or even vegetable oil if that’s all you have), but for the best results, a good quality extra virgin olive oil will make this dressing shine.
  • Red Wine Vinegar – Red wine vinegar adds a depth of flavor (unlike a white vinegar) from the fermented wine and the acidity and sharp tang is the perfect pairing with olive oil to create a beautifully balanced homemade salad dressing.
  • Mayonnaise – Here’s where the creaminess comes in! Go the extra from scratch mile by making your own mayonnaise from scratch!
  • Dijon Mustard This adds a kick of flavor and helps enhance all of the other flavors – and making your own is another way to add some from scratch flair!
  • Italian Seasoning You can, of course, use your favorite brand, but this is our favorite homemade blend of this classic seasoning!
  • Salt, Pepper, and Garlic Powder – The final seasonings to round it all out!

Ready in NO Time

Ok maybe not “no” time, but definitely the under 5 minutes kind of no time! Just add all of the ingredients to either a Pyrex dish or a mason jar, and whisk it or shake it all up to emulsify.

Store it in your fridge for up to a week (just be sure to give it a good shake as the ingredients will naturally separate), and your salads are ready for a little from scratch flavor boost!

Store in a Mason Jar

We choose to store this Homemade Creamy Italian Dressing in a mason jar, because the ingredients will naturally separate in the fridge. But if it’s in a mason jar, it’ll make it much easier to give it a solid shake to reemulsify the ingredients!
