Summer grilling season is in full swing! Even with the heatwave here in the PNW, our grill is on summer overdrive, which means our favorite summer sauces and marinades are too. Our latest summer BBQ sauce incorporates the sweet antioxidant-packed summer jewels, blueberries, for a sweet Blueberry BBQ Sauce that’s a gorgeous color and a delicious compliment to your favorite pork ribs or chops!

Ingredients Needed

bowls of blueberries, spices, maple syrup, liquid smoke, lemon juice, vinegar, and ketchup all labeled.
  • Blueberries – Is there anything better than fresh summer blueberries? They are one of our summer favorites and they are just little powerhouses of nutrition.
  • Ketchup – The base of this recipe and to go the extra mile, make your own Ketchup From Scratch, too!
  • Vinegar – Just the right amount to give it the tang that all good BBQ sauces should have. We use white vinegar, but apple cider is a great choice, too.
  • Brown Sugar – Just enough to add a depth of sweetness that compliments the blueberries.
  • Maple Syrup – Not too much, but just the right amount to add a little maple compliment.
  • Spices – We love cinnamon, nutmeg, ground ginger, and just a little heat from chili powder.
  • Liquid Smoke – This is optional, but it adds a little extra smokey element.

Easy to Make

two pots one with blueberries, ketchup, spices, and then it all cooked down.

One of the things I love most about this Blueberry BBQ Sauce? How stinkin’ easy it is to make, it’s even easier than our other BBQ sauces! Add it all to a saucepan, let it all simmer, and cook down.

Once it’s cooked down, use a potato masher or your trusty blender to give it a blitz to get the consistency you want. Smooth, chunky, whichever you prefer! We like our nice and smooth so we use our Vitamix to blend it until it’s smooth.

Sweet, smokey, and just the right amount of blueberry punch without being too overwhelmingly berry. This sauce is a delicious compliment to pork, especially pork ribs.
