If you’ve been around for any amount of time here, you know how much we love a homemade condiment. We’ve made a few BBQ sauces, and this one is our latest and greatest! Our Honey BBQ Sauce has quickly become our new go-to because of its sweet flavor profile and how easy it is to whip up! With just a few simple ingredients and 15 minutes, you can eliminate a store-bought sauce and create your own homemade, sweet, and smoky sauce for all your favorite recipes!

Ingredients Needed

bowls of ketchup, vinegar, a jar of honey, and small bowls of spices and liquid smoke labeled.
  • Ketchup – The base of this BBQ sauce, and if you want to go the extra from scratch mile, you can even make your own homemade ketchup in just 5 minutes!
  • Honey – As you could probably tell from the name, this requires a good amount of honey, but it’s the only sweetener, and we recommend you use a good, local, raw honey for this. That means that this BBQ sauce has no added overly processed sweeteners! Support your local farmer!
  • Vinegar – Necessary for a good BBQ sauce to add the right amount of acidity. Apple Cider is what we choose because it’s one of the milder vinegars, but you can also use white vinegar, too.
  • Spices – Onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, chili powder, and cayenne. They all come together to add amazing, balanced flavor.
  • Liquid Smoke – This adds a great smoky flavor!

Ready in Minutes!

One of the best parts of this Honey BBQ Sauce is that it is ready so fast. Add it all to a saucepan and let it simmer together for 15 minutes. That’s it!

Yes, buying a premade sauce in the store is very convenient, but the time that it takes to whip up this sauce in comparison to what you’re getting is so worth it!

I had some ribs we cooked with this BBQ sauce—incredible! This is one of the best BBQ sauces I’ve had, can’t wait to use it in the future. The honey in this recipe makes it such a unique and delicious sauce.
